What year was the Win. 1894 rifle discontinued, what year did the Win. 1894 carbine change from the long to the short forend and last, what year was serial number 840038 Win 1894 manufactured ? Any info is appreciated. Terrill

  The 2nd Edition is now out of print, but the much improved 3rd Edition will be at the printers office soon.
  
  In answer to your three questions;
  
  1. The Model 1894 (94) Sporting Rifle was discontinued December 1937 (announced in the January 1938 Salesman catalog).
  
  2. The Model 94 Carbine used the long wood forend stock until 1950 (circa serial number 1753000). The short wood forend stocks first appeared at serial number 1744819, and were interspersed with the long wood stocks until serial number 1753000. All serial numbers I have observed > 1753000 have the short wood.
  
  3. Serial 840038 was manufactured in April of 1916. It is in the known serial number range for the Spruce Guns.
