I have the chance to buy a Winchester 94 like new in box from my brother. He said he has fired about 8 rounds through it. It's got the cross bolt safety and is .45 LC. I think it's a trapper because it's short. He said he would take $350 for it. How much is it worth now and how much will it be worth now that they wont make them anymore?

I'll 'hazzard' a guess that the blueing worn off (the '94's from that time period were noted for this) and someone had it plated (can not be reblued)

If it has a matte finish, rather then a high polish mirror type finish? There is always the possibility that it has been blasted with glass beads to remove all vestiges of the original finish.

Generally if you do this and then apply a clear over coat of transparent shoe wax/polish it won't rust.

Unless you worked in a plating shop that specialized in guns? Or could have someone do it for you at little cost, it would be prohibitively expensive to disassemble a 94 for plating just the receiver.

Bubba doesn't always do poor work. Look under the screws and at the screw hole edges. Can you post pic's?

I suspect that it is chrome-plated.
