    Bubba special. Bubba also drilled the holes in the top of the barrel.

    Looks like a serious BULLS-EYE shooter that drilled and tapped top of slide to mount red dot scope . looking at chamber end of barrel I suspect this pistol has had hundreds of thousands of rounds through it . most likely the slide was milled to achieve better functions during matches. If you think this person ever shot a Camp Perry I have all records of every shooter from 1972-2005 I can look him up for you for free might even have an extra copy of that years NRA PRINTED results.

    Thanks for the replies. I've been looking at model 41's, and recently seen one similar at a local show, then seeing this one on auction, it got me wondering.

    Bubba? Maybe. Not factory original for sure, but Austin Behlert modified 41's and Victors like that to help insure positive ejection during competition. If it was one of his it might well raise it above the typical "bubba special" category.

    I agree this may not be a "bubba" job. Many aftermarket barrels (like from Clark) have no top strap at all, and as Perry stated, this is a somewhat common thing to have the scope mount drilled and the barrel strap opened. I have one just like this for Bullseye shooting, done by a gunsmith and it works great. As Perry stated, it appears a "lot" of rounds have gone through the gun, which is not uncommon for a Bullseye gun. (grip is also common for Bullseye)

    Modifications like this can enhance the shooting ability of the gun, but when you do it, it kills the resale value. I look at "did I buy it to shoot, or buy it to resell". Look at any competition pistols and they are generally ugly but fit the shooter and his/her style and grip.
