chinese sks date?
I just picked up a old chinese sks and now I'm trying to date it. I have looked on a lot of sites and get a lot of different answers so t hought I would ask for help. I can't post pics right now. It has the fancy 26 in a triangle to the left of the # it has the screw in barrel and a spike bayonet but I don't know if its original it looks newer than the gun. It does not have the 3 chinese markings. The main # is 1507237 and all the other numbers are just 07237. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge DOM on most Chinese SKS's have never been established. The best you can hope for is a rough time frame of manufacture.
This is because when the importation of military rifles into the U.S. was legalized in the mid 80's, it gave a green light to multiple Chinese entrepreneurs to start shipping SKS's and AK's in by the container load. They could care less where and how they got them. Lot of the SKS's were ex Chinese military guns, most were newly commercial manufactured specifically for the U.S. market though. I don't believe there was any U.S. legal requirements other then each individual rifle to be serial numbered and the importers name to be stamped on them.
The only exception to the above that i'm aware of was that early, (pre 1984), SKS's couldn't be imported as ex military guns. They had to be classed as police issue/used guns. Many years ago I had one of these very early import SKS's It was marked on the side of the receiver with 3 Chinese letters denoting "Public Security". Given this it was probably manufactured in the 70's?0
