204 Ruger or 20 Practical??
Which would you pick?

5mm,
If forced to pick between the two, it would be the 204 Ruger, as for the availability of ammo and brass.
However, since YOU are into that kind of stuff(a little wildcatting), I would go with a version of the 20 Fireball. It gives up little to the two other rounds, and is way more efficient.

5mmgunguy,
The .204 Ruger limits you through brass selection; Hornady or Remington (necked down .222 Remington Magnum). The .20 Practical allows for a greater variety of brass simply because it's made from .223 Rem. Now you can get Horneber, RWS, Lapua and Norma if you so choose. Then there is the plentiful supply of LC surplus both new and once-fired as well as the regular supply of Remington, Winchester, Hornady, Federal, etc.
Performance-wise, flip a coin. The barrel and bullet quality will make the biggest difference and then how well you work up a suitable load.
I have always been a fan of the Fireball case since building my first .17 Mach IV so the .20 Fireball would suit me just fine.
Overall, I would run with the .20 Practical if forced to choose.
