Cannot find serial number on Browning 22lr Take Down model. The receiver is chrome plated, and has a wheel sight. What is grade? thanks, Chuck

  Posting quality pictures sure would help, but I believe you have a grade II. The wheel sight means it was produced in the era that did not need a serial number.

  Don't know about the Belgian made Browning rifles? Prior to 1968 though, U.S. made long guns weren't legally required to have serial numbers.
  
  
  It would be best if you could post quality photos of the rifle. The plating doesn't appear to be correct for a Belgian Browning. Perhaps it's a indicator of over enthusiastic refinishing that deleted the serial numbers?

  Every Belgium 22 I had --had a serial number--so it may have been refinished off.

  Pictures would help.. Since you describe it as "chrome plated", it certainly sounds re-done.. Other than blue, Browning offered a French Grey which was a satin finish, hard chrome plated, but had no gloss..
  
  As far as serial number..
  
  Check on the underside of the barrel, just forward of the forearm..
  
  Take the gun apart and check the front of the receiver..
  
  Check the buttplate- inside as well..
  
  Check the end of the buttstock wood..

  Look Where the magazine tube enters the butt stock. In the recessed area there should be a round plate around the hole where magazine loading tube enters. Plate is held in with a couple of wood screws and serial number should be on the plate. Plate could be missing as it is not permanently attached.

  If it's got the wheel sight it's an early one. Look on the underside of the barrel in front of the forearm. I have one made in 1962 and that's where the number is

  In addition to the serial number information noted at the above link, the serial number has also been found in at least one instance at the top on the inside of the buttplate.
