How much is a 7mm Mauser rifle worth? It has a full wood stock but not all the way to the end and a spring loaded bolt. It is in fair to good condition. It says on it that it was made in Berlin and has four digets by it. Further up the barrel there are some more numbers on it and further on the barrel there are some stamps, maybe ones from a company mark?

Okay, first off there are no matching numbers on M1 Rifles. There are various part numbers (called drawing numbers) which can be dated to specific production periods and those can be very important to establishing value. The very concept of a virtually LIKE NEW 1942 M1 makes me think that the refile has been rebuilt, refinished or re barreled. Even if it had the correct barrel, little details like chrome on the gas port (which was not OEM in WWII) or a modified operating rod (also not OEM) can take away from the value of an otherwise correct rifle.
Totally correct, unmodified and LIKE it would easily be worth a couple of grand, but until I saw it (or was told more about it) I'd never get clsoe to paying that amount.
First question: Does the rear sight look like either of these (it should look like the one on the left)...

Does the operating rod look similar to the one on the top, the middle or on the bottom:

It should resemble the one on the top, which has no radius cut. The cut would not found on original WWII issued rifles.
Does the trigger guard look like the one on the top of like the two below it?

My father bought/acquired the rifle in 1950. (Same year he was discharged from the USMC). It IS like new. In my lifetime it has had 2-3 clips fired through it. He always said it has a Match barrel. But I don't know how to prove it. Rear sight looks like one on top right. Trigger guard looks like one on top. 0 -
There were no match barrels in 1942, or 1950. What are the markings on the barrel? 0 -

I haven't ever seen the barrel markings. I did have it evaluated several years ago by a retired former Army Arsenal officer. Who took it apart. It was pronounced original then. And dated the serial to 1942. No mention by him of match barrel. That's just something Dad said. Back then he said value around $1,500.
Obviously it was not a battle used rifle. But as I said, I know it's not some recent rebuild. My Dad owned this rifle all of my life.0 -
A serial number (or partial) would be helpful as there were quite a few changes to the M1 during 1942. If it were early enough it might have has what was know as the flush nut rear sight, which predated the lock bar types. If it is truly correct and original it is easily worth $1500, but in 1950 Uncle Sam was rebuilding tens of thousands of M1s every month. 0 -

pull back oprod and lock open and look in the opening and see barrel data 0 -
Serial is 7 digits, starting with 209. Last two are 0's.
Barrel marking looks like 8-S-A-11-43.
I might have had mistaken memory on the previous 42 date.
2,09x,xxx would be a receiver date of around October, 1943 so a 11-43 dated barrel would be correct. That is NOT a match barrel and no such barrels for M1 Rifles existed during that time period0 -
