How much? Continued

So how much might this rifle in VG to Ex condition be worth currently? I am considering selling it.

    The stock needs to have an S.A. over G.A.W. cartouche on the left side to be correct. If it has that you are $400 ahead. If not, what if anything is stamped there? I like the rifle better now than I did when lead to believe it was a 1942 rifle with a National Match barrel but you are a long way from home on getting correct/collector money based on the information given.

    Aprox where on left side? I'm finding something that looks like a large circle w/kind of sideways Z in it on the bottom front of the stock pistol grip area.
    OH. FOUND IT! SA over M1 in a box just under rear of receiver behind rear sight. With a round symbol next to it.

    S.A. over M1? The marking on the pistol grip should look like this:

    The circle-P is the proving stamp which would be applied at Springfield Armory after the rifle was proven.

    But yes. Large letter SA over M1 or MI in what looks might be a box. At least I see vertical lines on each side. Might be LMI
    OK, I see the P, it's sideways.

    Without seeing a photo is sounds like a open-box rebuild. There would be a thin line on the top and two vertical lines but no bottom on teh box. Springfield did these rebuilds and marked them S.A over any number of letters. If this is the case your value just plummeted. It also makes me wonder what else, if anything, was replaced during rebuild. Once again, chrome at the gas port on the barrel or a radius cut in the operating rod would all be tell tale signs of overhaul and a drop in value. Unless yo want to physically send me the rifle and look at it you are going to have to put up so detailed photos for our examination in order to get a true idea of it's value. If you are going to list it you will be taking photos for the auction so this should be easy enough. Does it look something like this:

    OK, stock mark is SA over EMF. Found it on a website. Kinda hard to tell what it is exactly until you know what you're looking for. Some of the lines kinda look like wood grain until you know what they are.

    That is actually a bit early for your serial number but close enough. Based on what I know about the rifle (and it changes from post to post) I'd put it up for $1500 and see where it went.

    all i can offer here is that if you want to play in the big leagues as far as auction prices, you're going to need better pictures. i wouldnt pay 1500 for a winged pegasus with pictures like that...

    +1 You need SN pics as which will allow the person to see the manufacture. You also need to take a pic of the rifle as a whole and any dings or dents in the wood.

    I live in Tulsa and not in a big hurry. If I sell, I'll likely take it to the Wannemacher Gun Show.
