    Have Winchester of 1917 in the closet. 30-06 with Herter muzzle brake on it. Doesn't appear to be original. Not finding much info on this production. Post some thots on the rifle. Thanks, GW.

    I'm going to say no. The wear atop the engraving is not consistant with the wear on the rest of the gun, and the lines that are suppose to be straight are wavy and crooked.

    Not an expert but it looks period correct, however i have never seen that style. I dont think its factory because if it were, it would be fetching 10 times that amount.

    A letter would tell the story

    The engraving is nicely thought out, but I do not believe the execution is factory quality work.

    I agree with the others that this is not factory engraved. I was looking at the pictures and noticed that the engraving on the top front of the received is not straight which would lead me to believe that it wasn't done by Winchester.

    +1 on everything the other guys said! and I'll add that the wood is too plain, no checking.

    That's a good point. Nice gun though.

    Check Pauline Muerrle's website. She is a former Winchester fctory engraver and has a vast amount of knowledge and documentation on the guns engraved at Winchester.

    I wish Bert H would look this one up and let us know in what configuration the gun was shipped. [:0] Maybe the sly old fox wants to keep the rest of us guessing to keep the price down and the swoop in during the 15 MIN rule . [}:)][;)]

    Hello fellows;

    I am currently in Cody, WY (at the annual WACA gun show).

    In my opinion, it is not a factory engraved Winchester. There are numerous irregularities in the patterns and execution. That stated, I will look it up tomorrow and post a follow-up reply.

    Confirmed... it is non-factory engraved.
