22 ammo destruction
I came up with 2 Bricks of winchester wildcat 22 ammo, they came in a box of stuff that was left in a friends rental house. Nice find right? [:D] Wrong[:(] About 20% of this stuff will not fire,we have tried it in a couple of different rifles and some works some doesnt.So this brings me to the question how do I safely dispose of it? My best guess is that it has been in a high heat/high humidity situation. Any thoughts.

Higher dud rate than normal with wildcats but so what, just shoot it up for trigger time. Most ranges have dud can. 0 -

I never liked wildcats and they are junk in my opinion new or old. Look it up[:(][xx(][V] 0 -
I'd grab the case with my fingers and see if I could pull the bullets with a pair of pliers. Usually works. Dump the powder on your lawn and just pitch the rest, unless you cast bullets in which case you can save the bullets to re-melt.
Failing that, I've disposed of small numbers of cases by just burying them about a foot down.0 -
Most law enforcement agencies will take ammo for destruction. Might want to call first. 0 -
Note that if you ask the cops to take it you may be labeled as an ammo hoarder with an "arsenal".
I'd shoot it if I had some sort of older 22 especailly a bolt action in case of a squib. As long as it goes bang or is a dud, there's not much problem.0 -
I'd never get law enforcement involved here.
Every range I've been to has a "dud" can.
If you want to do it yourself, you can (carefully. . duh) pry loose the bullet with a vice grip or pliers, then dump the powder.
Inactivating primers is actually not as easy as you might think.
Contrary to popular belief, spraying them with WD-40 or other solvents isn't reliable.
With a rimfire, you could try squashing them with a hammer (wear safety glasses). Tossing in a fire is probably the most practical way to deactivate.0 -
