RPD semi-auto problem
I have a semi-auto RPD that I shot about 6 months ago with no problems. today I took it out and could not get the gun to cycle. I can operate it by hand and that will feed the rd and the gun will fire, will eject the rd, cock the hammer but not pick up the next rd in the link. I have checked the gas system and its set on "3" the highest setting, I have removed it and checked it to see that is is clear. It is lubed as well, At a loss to understand what has happened since I last shot it. Any advise on this would be helpful

Are you absolutely sure that the gas port is clean? I don't mean just the adjustment or piston compartment, but the port that runs from your barrel, thru the gas block, into the piston. Does brake cleaner, run thru there, uninhibited?
Best
EDIT 1
Does that reamer look like a welding torch tip cleaner? Will brake cleaner run thru the hole in the barrel and gas block?0 -
The gas port is clear, I even used the reamer that is for the gun to make sure it was not obstructed. 0 -
The RPD has TWO gas ports. One from the bbl into the gas chamber, and one from the rear of the gas chamber against the face of the piston.
Did you run Yugo or other corrosive-primer ammo in it and then leave it sit? This may be part of the problem.0 -
thats the same thing i was thinking, that he used corrosive ammo in it, and rusted up the gas ports! i had an sks that i un-knowingly shot corrosive ammo though. put the gun away for about 3 months. when i took it out, i thought the gun was ruined! un-real what that ammo does. took alot of scrubbing to get it clean. 0 -
I actually ran a full auto RPD until both gas ports were OCCLUDED!
For the last few hundred rounds the gun had a tendency to "run away" where there was enough energy to pop the primers and run the gun, but the bolt carrier couldn't come back far enough to catch the sear if you released the trigger!0 -
No corrosive ammo was used. I cleaned both of the ports mentioned, there is no corrosion in the gas port area, Next idea. 0
