  Does anybody know if this gun was put out by Colt?

  Most likely a reblue, and missing the original backstrap? You are looking at around $1000.00 for a decent shooter then.

  There are two different versions of the Model 1927 Argentine Colt. The first 10,000 were made in the U.S. by Colt. They were numbered in their own serial number range. After that the rest were manufactured in Argentina. From a collectors perspective the ones actually made in the U.S. by Colt are more desirable. Some of the actual Argentine made 1927's though, were imported and sold as surplus here in the U.S., were in NIB condition condition. They also are sought after by collectors.
  
  Here is a photo I got off the net of a Argentine made 1927.
  
  It would be best if you could post quality photos of the Colt for accurate identification and valuation.

  Photos would make this a lot easier.
  
  Commercial Colt's are usually marked "Government Model", & US military models are usually marked "1911" or "M1911A1".
  
  The "main spring housing" design was changed from flat to rounded in 1926 for the M1911A1. Colt rarely threw away new parts, so a flat MSH may be correct for a Government Model made in 1927.

  Starting in late 1923, several changes were implemented, with all being completed by mid-1925, and called the "1911 Improved" model...later to be adopted by the US Army as the Model of 1911A1.
  
  These changes were:
  
  Arched mainspring housing.
  Short trigger
  Scalloped cuts behind the trigger guard.
  Sights
  Long grip safety tang.
  Disconnect slot.
  Rectangular front sight tenon.
  Slidestop
  
  So, no. The flat housing wouldn't be correct for a pistol built in 1927.
