when you ask BEST IMHO there is no one BEST you will need to pattern each in your shotgun . Normally the larger the shot size the less choke needed. choke for #4 buck might be great but 00Buck be blown to Hell with big holes in the pattern . also factory may be better then HIGH $$$ aftermarket brand. 0 -
Shotguns often thought to be a catch all and shoot whatever is cheap...
Too bad that doesn't work! Every gun has loads they like and chokes they like with said loads.0 -
I have a 3 inch 870 with a 20 in bbl. I have 5 choke tubes for it but the one I like the best is skeet #2. I load 12 pellets of 00 in 2 3/4. I like the factory 41 buffered #4 in 3 inch. 0 -
I am going to try a mod. and a full choke, but i have never tried some of these new buckshot chokes that they make now..this will be for shooting coyotes and a deer every now and them....thanks 0 -
Buckshot, especially the 00, and 000 will prefer an open choke like IC, Skeet, or Cylinder Bore. It most likely will not pattern worth a damn with modified, or full, and you run the risk of cracking your barrel where the choke is, especially with the full choke.
I am thinking that since you are not making your living by shooting competition with this, the only difference you will be able to tell with factory chokes over Carlson, or Briley, is the amount they decrease the thickness of your wallet. If you are an avid trap, skeet, or sporting clays shooter, the higher end chokes might be worth a look...but I would presume shooting those venue's would not be much fun with a 3 1/2" gun.

An old article in the Police Marksman magazine had riot guns fitted with Polychoke and screw in choke tubes. Much to everyone's suprise, the best (tightest) patterns with 00 and 000 buckshot came with Modified and Improved Modified choke.
So I shot some 00 out of the IM barrel of my trap gun.
It would put about half the pellets on the humanoid figure of the B27 PPC target at 45 yards. I'd want a coyote at maybe 25 yards to count on a pattern like that.0
