Colt 1991a1 extended 11 round magazine sleeves?

I used to have an extended mag for my Colt 1911-type, but gave it away; it's just too long, & likely to snag if you try to draw from a holster, especially under a jacket or sweater. Plus, I figure that, for civilian use, most Close Encounters of the Worst Kind will be ended within 3 seconds or 3 rounds, whichever happens first.

For almost 100 years, LEOs & concerned civilians who felt they needed > 7 rounds of .45 acp, have carried extra mags, & practiced reloading under pressure.

Yes, the Colt 1991A1 has a plastic main spring housing & trigger. But, these parts are not stressed, so that is why Colt felt comfortable substituting plastic for steel. If that bothers you, get a Colt Series 70 pistol, on which these parts are steel.

Okay thanks Neal, some good points...
I was wondering about the potential for the extended mag to over-protrude as a potential snag problem as well and maybe the 10 round might be more of a balance there...
That is basically how we were trained on the street as well and were usually cut in the scenario( being the job is inherently dangerous) as we got a shot into the perpetrator all within a couple seconds for close encounters in a 'real world' setting as the perp unfortunately isn't going to announce his intention at 25' and usually has the advantage.
Similar to correctional training as well but which can be worse since there are no firearms on the tier for obvious reasons and only ltl type 'weapons'.
I may just switch the plastic for steel just to get acquainted better with the 1991a1...:)

The only 11 round magazine I have ever used was of rather low quality, even though a name brand.
There are some pretty good 10 round .45 magazines. The McCormick Power Mag 10 has a "sleeve" of sorts although it does not fill the magazine out to the full size of the gun butt.

However, most of the (few) policemen I know who carry 1911 or other single stack autos are satisfied with 8+1 in the gun. A VERY few will carry 10s for the reload, but most are good with a few more 8s on the belt.

Okay, thanks Hawk Carse, I may just have to do that if it looks to be a problem.

I use 8rd Wilson mags, as you have 9rds in the gun. Just carry one as a spare. I have a 10rd McCormick I have used in matches only as it stickes out of the butt about 1 1/4". Also have a rare 13rd Wilson that he made some before the '94 ban.

Okay thanks dcs shooters, I am looking at the different quality magazine sellers like Wilson, MecGar and McCormick and should be able to find something that will work out, too bad that Colt doesn't manufacture a Hi-Cap 1991a1.

I have used McCormick 10rd Power mags a lot in IPSC matches & they have done great. They do stick out some. I have also had great performance with the McCormick Power mag 8 rounders for carry.

By the way. Para Ordnance makes the best hi cap 1911 out there and are the ones to put the hicap 1911 on the map.

I agree, that Para Ordnance, now PARA-USA, has the best double-stack 1911. I have a 14/45 Limited, and while not as slick as my Wilsons, will shoot with them, accuracy, and reliability wise. Just, even with my big paws, I do prefer the single-stack grip.

Okay thanks BHAVIN, I am currently looking into the 10 and 11 round magazines for the Colt 1991 to see which will work for me best but sounds like probably the 10 round...
I will say that the Colt 1911 WW1 replica is a knockout but cant find them...
I was also considering the Para Ordnance however apparently that they are cast as opposed to forged and use a ramped barrel opposed to the non-ramped 1911 barrel...However I am looking into this further to see if its a potential problem or not, although both Caspian and Ruger are cast as well which says alot.

The Para Ordnance that I am interested in is the
Para Ordnance 14-45 1911 45 ACP Hi-Cap pistol, but I want a solid trigger as opposed to the 3 hole trigger...
All together I do prefer the Colt 1911-1991 pistols, S&W Revolvers and S&W MP15PSX piston AR15's, but don't prefer the Colt Revolvers, S&W 1911 pistols or Colt 6940 piston AR15's, just personal preference and features is all as they are both quality firearms manufacturers...

So hopefully then unless there is any valid reason not too, either it will be the Para Ordnance 14-45 1911 Hi-Cap or the Colt 1991 with 10-11 round mags; as I have just given up on the Springfield Armory 1911 Hi-Cap because of their nonsense with production...but will probably go with the Para Ordnance 14-45 1911 Hi-Cap though...

Okay thanks tsr1965, as stated I probably will go with the Para Ordnance 14-45 1911 Hi-Cap and carry a steel framed Glock 17 9mm for a backup...And I like the the wide body frames as I have large hands, but can use the single stack frames as well from having done so in the military for years.

Don't worry about Caspian frames being cast. Here's one I built myself for a match gun and it has had about 12,000 rounds through it so far. The slide is Caspian also.

Okay thanks dcs shooters, I was hoping someone would chime in about it and with the good solid reputations of Para Ordnance, Ruger and Caspian I wouldn't think that it would be an issue, so good to hear...

Also, what about the 1911 ramped barrel vs the 1911 non-ramped barrel, is it true that the +P ammunition is more reliable with the ramped barrel?

I had a Para P-14 with a alloy frame and ramped bbl. for a while. It fed everything put through it from the first round. A alloy frame that does not have a ramped bbl. or a steel insert in the frame is going to get chewed up with a steady diet of hollow point ammo.

Okay thanks dcs shooters, will make sure that I get a Para-Ord 14-45 Hi-Cap 1911 with steel receiver as I prefer the steel receiver over the alloy or plastic out of personal preference.
