Stevens 44 1/2 action
I have a Stevens 44 1/2 action (center fire) on the front of the action it has the 44 1/2 stamp and EX 00 does anyone know what that stands for? also what would be the value? It is in excellent cond. with silver patina and some case colors. thanks

These actions are STRONGER then the Model 44 . They were used as a action to build target guns from the 1940's - 1960's and well thought of . Most of that market has dried up, as people today want collector grade complete guns. or Sharps to build vintage guns. OR build BLACK GUNS like the AR platform[:(][:(]. I would look at the SINGLE SHOT EXCHANGE for information on what the numbers mean I expect )) has something to do with Head diameter for the extractor. 0 -
These actions with DST are very nice but not as strong as the Winchester 1885.
I would rebarrel it to a period target cartridge like the 32-40 but not to a modern high pressure cartridge.0 -
I would take a look at the ASSRA website for additional info. The 44 1/2 it a tough action and while it will handle most modern cartridges, my preference would be for a period cartridge like the .32-40. It is still popular and in demand with the single shot guys. I am thinking $250 to $450 depending on who wants it. If it were mine and I wanted to get rid of it I would list it on Gunbroker with no minimum and let it sell itself. I have found that anything of quality seldom sells for less than it is worth here. 0 -
38-55 was another caliber supplied with those original centerfire
