Single Barrel shotgun forend mount replacement?
I've got an old Savage 94 with the forend mount missing off the barrel. It is the screw type. What kind of nut/barrel/threaded insert would you guys recommend for replacement? And i need a screw as well...so i'm thinking a trip to the local hardware store may be best. But not sure if there is something that would be easier. Figure i'll need to braze it, or possibly JB Weld to put it on there....

I would use low temp silver to hold the "nut" not glue. Be nice if you could get the correct screw or make one that fits the forearm. A larger graded bolt with the head thinned down and contoured to the bbl, outer threads removed and then drilled and tapped to the correct thread. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Products.aspx?catid=5601 0 -
Could you post a pic of the bottom of the barrel, where the mount goes?
I checked Numrich which didn't have a schematic for the "Old Model" which yours may be. All the other schematics show a latch type mount.
To make the mount stud you would be best to have it radius cut to match the OD of the barrel for a solder joint. Give Numrich a call. They may have the correct screw for your 94. If not the forend screw, item #16A, for a Model 944A would be a better option than trying to "make due" with what you could find at the hardware.

As for attaching the lug, I would avoid brazing. There is to much heat involved and would cause scaling inside the bore which can be a PITA to remove. I would recommend a good paste flux and Brownells High Force 44 solder.0
