.45 Colt Cowboy vs Black Powder ?

    Looks like a nice shooter. If it were mine I'd be loading it with black and just enjoy shooting it. Maybe some light loads of Unique but I'd rather shoot it as a 45 Colt not a 22.

    I looked up the ballistics on the Cowboy and standard .45 Colt and the Cowboy is 250 grains lead bullet with muZzle velocity of 750 feet per second. The standard .45 Colt is 255 grains & 860 fps.

    I doubt that makes much difference in wear & tear gun-wise.

    Anyone have info as to pressure differential or pressure characteristic difference?

    Cowboy loads should be safe for a lot of shooting. Pressure and velocities are less than SAAMI factory loads and original 40 grain black powder loads which pushed a 250 gr bullet at about 900 fps.
