Colt Python Experts lend your advice

I'm watching NIB or lightly fired Pythons with the original boxes...

Are there any tips to tell if the label on the box is original...I have seen replacement boxes and blank reproduction labels for sale so I don't want to end up paying a premium for a Python with its orig box and paperwork and have it turn out to be a reproduction label

    Contact seller with question and confirm return policy if box and/or label prove to be bogus.

    Thanks, it wasn't really a fruitful discussion, just a picture of a fake label. I guess there is no way to tell, more a matter of feeling out the seller, and reading their seller feedback. I have seen a lot of auctions that had Pythons in crisp looking boxes and you have to pay attention because deep down in the description you find out it includes "a box" not necessarily the box it was sold in. If I am going to drop $2k-3K on an investment firearm I'd like to make sure its the real deal.

    If you do a search for "box labels" on the Coltforum you'll gets lots of info about what to look for as far as spotting a fake label and or box. People now will fake a box, label, hang tag, string to hold it on, manual, etc so it pays to proceed with caution when investing a couple thousand or more in a collector grade Colt. Alot of these have been passed off as original and the current owners are not aware that the packages are not authentic.

    yeah thanks, I went and read a bunch of stuff. The fraud is rampant!!! I wonder how many of the current auctions are fraudulent.

    I'm probably better off buying one without a box...I'll save money and not have to worry about it! And if it's been fired I won't have to worry about shooting it some more!

    About the only way you are going to protect yourself from this problem of fake labels and not orignal boxes and such is to only buy the Python from the orginial buyer who has the sales receipt of the weapon purchased new. Other than that, you take your chances as faking boxes/labels and hang tags has turned into a cottage industry.

    The labels just dont "look right" on the fakes.

    Look at enough of them and you can tell....

    When considering a boxed Python, ask for help over on the Colt Forum. There is a lot of Colt knowledge and experience there.
