M1-A1/ M-14 in .30-06 Caliber?
Did they ever make the M1-A1 or M-14 in .30-06 caliber? I'd really like to get one to complete my Springfield Collection, but I really don't want to have to purchase ammo and/or reloading equipment/ supplies in .308.

The T44/M14 Rifle was designed around the 7.62X51 NATO STANAG cartridge and dimensionally the receiver is too short to allow the use of the .30-06 cartridge. This would be something like trying to park a 12 foot long vehicle inside a 10 foot long garage and close the door...It just won't fit. There are also various kits out there which would allow a fellow who is handy with tools to convert his .30-06 M1 to feed using a BAR magazines. The results depend on just how skillful the person doing the work is. 0 -
But, you will need one in .243 WIN, which they made in small quantities.
