AKMS

I picked up a century arms ak47 (AKMS) and asked who made the receiver the answer I was given was KMS I was also told if I wanted any more info I could go to KMSFAB.com but I do not see any info there. Are the KMS receivers any good? and have you heard of them. Thank you.

  It is a matter of who made the reciever, but nos so much of a matter who put the rifle together. CAI is notorious for poor builds. Builds, that even a third world country can put together right.

  if KMS really made the reciever as a ready to go unit their name and a serial number would be on it and they would have to hold a manufacturing FFL but they look like fabricators so they may have just been the the company that stamped out the flats for someone elst to bend and finish..what and all markings on reciver???

  I see no other markings on the receiver that is why I asked about it, I thought I would see some kind of mark the SN# starts with KMS. I also thought it was funny looking at the website that there is no mention about making receivers so I see what your saying about the FFL thing. I just wanted to know about the receiver, just trying to understand what I was looking at better. Thank you.

  They will contract with small scale machining companies to make receivers and then will assemble the firearm themselves. However until they get rid of the 'angry monkeys' and pay attention to QC(quality control) they will always produce substandard, unreliable and possibly dangerous firearms.

  what style of AK is it or what country parts on it???

  It is a AKMS (polish) but the barrel and receiver are USA made, and yes I've heard all the storys about CIA and how things could be better, I just wanted to understand better what I was looking at. I have picked up some with milled receivers and some with stamped, some of the stamped ones were made by Nodak Spud and they seem to be very well made. Again thank you for the info.

  Its really alot more than just 'story's' and far and away from 'could be better' its actually horrible, to put it in perspective, CAI simply doesnt care and unfortunately there are alot of unsuspecting customers that don't know any different and purchase their junk.
  However Nodak makes fine stamped AKM receivers but does not build AKM rifles, so as long as a reputable builder (other than the angry monkeys at Century Arms International) does the building work then you should be fine, as there are alot of quality AKM/AK47 builders.
