My good friend and gunsmith, CP Donnelly was the best I ever met, but unfortunately he passed away from cancer a few years back. For hard to locate parts for old Winchesters he would obtain them from Jim Wisner from near Centralia, WA. they have a website- enter Wisner on your search engine. they do some gunsmithing, but mostly mfg parts for 'smiths that do. As such I'm sure they would be familiar with the 'smiths that do quality work on old Winchesters. Sad but true that the 'smiths that graduated from PO Ackley's teaching have either retired or passed away :-(

The folks in the link below are some of the very best there is. They will even thread, chamber, and headspace the barrel to your rifle. They like the kreiger, and Bartlein barrels too. Very good quality, and first rate workmanship.

Google Story Gun and Machine. I've had him do several barrels including octagon.

Simmons in Olathe is good also.

any gunsmith who rebarrels rifles as a matter of business can do the model 70. many times it is a matter of preference in that they want to stick with what they like. especially if they are busy and have the ability to pick and choose.
