New CZ 97B Jammed
I've recently purchased a CZ 97B, and after shooting less than 50 rounds of ammo I've experienced a problem.
The threaded barrel bushing has started unscrewing and has jammed itself against the recoil spring housing, causing the gun to function very poorly. The slide stopped cycling completely and felt like it was jammed. That's when I discovered the bushing unscrewing/jamming.
Took it to the gun shop I got it from, they said that shouldn't have happened and to contact CZ directly. The shop did unscrew it and fix it for now, but I'm concerned as to what really happened. Factory Fiocchi .45 acp jacketed ammo was used.
Any ideas as to what would cause this??
I sent CZ an email, hoping they'll respond and maybe send out a new bushing. We'll see.

I would give blue locktight a try, before sending it back to CZ. Clean the threads well with a solvent like alcohol, before using a small amount of the locktight. If that doesn't work see if teflon tape, will prevent it from loosening. 0 -
Great gun, a personal favorite. How is the bushing unscrewing? The recoil spring housing, held in place by the recoil spring, protrudes through the front of the slide to keep the bushing from turning. Suggest reading the manual to verify correct assembly procedure for housing, spring, guide rod, and timing the barrel bushing. Sealants or tape on the threads is a no no, thats what the notches in the bushing and the recoil spring housing are for. Check out clubcz97b, forum with lots of input. Instead of Blue Locktite, use some fingernail polish. Will hold all that is normally needed for guns, and comes apart much easier. 0 -
Thanks for the tips. I hope to get a new bushing from CZ and solve the problem.
As for the question asking how is it unscrewing- tell me about it! I was amazed to see it actually bent the edge of the bushing where it contacts the spring housing!
As for the manual, it's the first thing I did. No problems there, especially since the gun is so easy to work on.0 -
I sent out an email Wednesday to CZ explaining the problem, they responded the same day saying they were sending out a new threaded barrel bushing.
The package arrived yesterday! Talk about quick/prompt customer service, I was impressed.
I'll install it and see what happens next, hopefully that is the only problem. [^]0 -
I have an older CZ, it's my "always loaded" gun. The bushing on this older pistol has a single cut in the bushing and the recoil spring plunger keeps it in place. Newer bushings have the cuts all around the bushing. Either way with the bushing and recoil plunger properly in place it should prevent any unscrewing.
The only thing I can think of would be an extremely weak recoil spring that allows the plunger to move back (and disengage the cut in the bushing) just a bit when the slide stops its rearward travel during recoil - the weight of the plunger moving rearward (when the slide suddenly stops moving rearward) would have to be greater than the force of the recoil spring pushing it forward. That's just a guess and I suppose it would take a very weak spring and "just perfect" bad timing.0
