E is OK for a month code but the last two letters aren't a date code combination. Strange. Could the letters be CYL for cylinder choke? Remington did not use the date codes for a few years, maybe your barrel was made one of those years.

OK I have solved the mystery here...Just want to let you all know. This 1100 was made Feb 1975, according to the SN on the receiver. The barrel markings:

    E: Proof mark
    L: Feb
    Y 1974

Tim at Remington states they often used barrels from the previous year and married them over to newer current stocks and receivers. They had to run out the barrels from the previous year before they could use new year's barrel. With this being a Feb production in 1975, this could very well be the case. He did say he can't be certain it is the original barrel, but most likely it is the one.

Being that I am using it as a regular shooter, I don't care, but he said an outfit like Corson's could probably source a 75 barfrel if I so wanted to match them both.

I might just keep the Corson's link for the future...

Thanks to all who cared enough to have input here...OD
