1907 US sling use
So I finally bit the bullet and bought two nice leather 1907 pattern slings. I'm a little stumped on how to use them. I found instructions with pictures from an original US army pamphlet, but they were too small to see any detail. Mainly I want to know how it hooks around my arm for the supported positions; as it is all that happens is the keepers slip and the sling is too loose.

Jonk, I have a manual with a good picture of how the sling is installed the army way. With the photo it will be easy to explain how to use the sling. I can scan and email the picture to you but don't know how to scan and include it in a post. If you will provide me with your email address I will scan and send you the picture. 0 -

You can do a google search for 1907 rifle sling usage and it will bring up many links and videos that may be useful. Beware! Some will show the original way to use it and others will show someone's idea of a new and improved way to use it. Don't get confused.0 -

That's what I'm doing. I slide the keeper down, but with nothing to lock it in place and with tension not tightening the sling like a web sling does, it doesn't stay tight enough to stay in place; the keeper just slides up a quarter an inch and it slides down to my elbow.
If your scanned photo shows anything different, email to endofwork@netzero.com.0 -
