Polishing engraved areas

You really should send it out to someone that knows his, or her way around that kind of work.
It would be really easy to mess up the engraving...
If you really felt like doing it, I would use a crocus cloth on a flat backer...

Kroil keep wet 24 hours then copper pot scrubber. then bore cleaner on a rag will remove copper color but not harm metal.

That is a real work of art. Could you more pic's? I'm thinking that you should call the folks at Smithsonian for advice. To me its 100 hours with a shaped popsicle stick and a very fine polish like Happishs? Semichrome using a good magnifing viewer.

Were it mine, I'd contact an engraver and see if they, or someone they recommend, could do it.

    Nice looking gun. Sad. [:(!]

Among other things, I'm an engraver.
We really need to see good pictures of the gun NOW, to advise you.
I'm thinking Simichrome on a washcloth-used very gently might help.

A friend gave me some Wenol and it worked pretty good. It doesn't seem to have any grit in it at all. BTW can you believe that I bought that gun for $1000 ?? I'm lucky with cars and Guns. I'd trade it off quick for a good woman.;-)
    I'll order some Simichrome. Tonight.

That's a bad location for bare steel if you're going to use the shotgun.
After cleanup per the above recommendations, I'd investigate hard chrome
    plate.

perry shooter's is best DIY advice. If not satisfied send it for pro attention who will probably do more of pretty much the same, but you will feel better.
