I have read that the current minis are more accurate than the older pencil barrel ones.
I would appreciate any comments regarding old vs new mini-14 in 223cal.
    I now own a mini in 223cal.(DOM 1980).
I assume the 30rd mags I now have will fit a new mini.
    Is this correct?

Hopefully they're Ruger factory mags. Aftermarkets are hit and miss as far as functioning goes....mostly miss.

While the new mini's are more accurate then the old ones they come with a price. Nearly the same price as the even more accurate AR. I myself see no reason to own a mini 14.

Quite a bit of difference between some AR mousegun and a Mini-14; fewer O-rings, pins, springs, and annoyances from losing a bb or some other teensy part outta yer multi-thousand-dollar "black rifle".

I've got 3 minis (2 -14 and 1-30) and 4 Ar's in the safes...the mini's have their plusses and their quirks... and the Ar's theirs as well. I say to each his own, as I would feel well armed with either one.

The Tapco Gen 2 mags work great for me. They are light and durable, you can buy three 30 round Tapco mags for the cost of one 30 round Ruger mag.

I have a new mini 14 581 series, it is a very quick handling carbine. I am a left handed shooter, so I prefer the Garand style safety, and of course the bullet proof Garand style action. This action shrugs off dirt and grime that would jam up an AR[;)].

I also like the Tapco Gen 2 magazines. The new Mini 14 Tactical is more accurate than the older 180 series Mini 14's.
    My 2 cents

Multi thousand dollar mouse gun??? A $700 AR will out shoot the $700 mini any day of the week period. They had to practically redesign half the gun and it's still not that accurate.
