I was wondering if anyone knew a left handed saftey lever is avalible for the M1 Carbine or if its possible for the existing lever to be fliped around so it can be better opperated by a left-handed shooter. 0 -
If its original GI, I wouldnt touch it. If its a rebuild, or "shooter grade" they make scope mounts the replace the rear sight. You must remove the sight to fit it. The sight punched in place, and when removed it will leave marks in the metal, which is them covered by the mount, which is not a problem unless you remove the mount, and then replace the rear sight......then you have to punch it in place again, and, get more marks.
It can also be a bit tough to find a good quility mount. There are a lot of cheap chi-com ones out there, but if you find a good one, they work very well. I put one on my cheap plainfield. It makes it a fun little plinker.

Many years ago I mounted a Leupold M8 2x pistol scope on the barrel with a B-Square mount that clamped on the barrel in front of the receiver. It required ruining only a handguard (I cut a notch from the front). That worked well out to 100 yds. .30 cal carbine is equivalent to .357 mag, so nothing to be gained with a higher power scope.

I put a 1X5 shotgun scope on one of mine. I used a S&K mount that replaces the rear sight. It is very solid. 0 -
He posted that the carbine was post war and since the GI was not manufactured at that time he may have something different. If you take the barrel and receiver out of the stock you may see some scope mount holes drilled in the receiver just below the wood line on the left side. I have seen some GI models drilled for scopes in the same place.
