FFL Transfer Question/Hand Guns

If the buyer is in MO. And the seller is in FL. Both are non-FFL, can the seller ship to an FFL in MO. Without going through an FFL in FL. To complete the transaction and handle the paper work for the buyer?

    Yes, but with the outrageous costs of using UPS or FedEx next day air, it may be cheaper for the Fl. resident to pay a FFL $20 for xfer and $20 to mail the pistol via USPS to the Mo. FFL.

    Why must Fed-X or UPS be used? Can't USPS do it non-next day? Is there a time limit? or a "not willing to do it" issue?

    Only FFL Dealers, licensed firearms manufactures, and a very few select others are allowed to mail handguns. Everyone else (which is you) must use a common carrier; UPS or Fed Ex, both of whom have internal policies which mandate the use of air shipping and that costs a pretty penny. If you are planning to ship to an FFL dealer make absolutely sure that he will accept a firearm sent to him from a non licensee.

    Just ship the pistol through an FFL, then there is a paper trail in case the package ends up missing. At least you can prove it was logged out of the dealer's books and shipped.

    Good advice. Many ffls will not accept a firearm from a non-ffl anyway.

    While legal for a non-FFL to mail (via UPS, FedEx, etc) to an FFL the fellow buying the gun must ensure his receiving FFL will accept the gun from a non - FFL and the buyer, seller and FFL should all agree in advance, to include what sort of ID is acceptable from the non - FFL seller.

    A fellow in CA recently had a gun sent to his FFL, the non - licensee's seller's version of "providing ID" was a DL copy with everything but photo and name blacked out.
