Receivers, barrel extensions and feedramps

If I buy a complete AR 15 upper, the feedramps should match, right? That is, rifle extension with rifle receiver OR M4 extension with M4 receiver.

The only time I should have to worry about it is if I am assembling an upper from parts, right?

  Basically, that is correct. An M4 extension will "work" with a rifle upper but not the other way around. If a rifle extension is installed in an upper with M4 type feed cuts, the extension will intrude into those feed cuts and result in the bullets snagging at that point.
  Buying an assembled upper does not guarantee that correct parts are used.

  I've bought 2 from DPMS, I specified a barrel change on one, and all was good. Feedramp fits were cut shiney-n-smooth without the slightest catch or hitch.

  That is correct. Basically, everything today is comming thru with the M4 style barrel extension, as it does not make a difference.
