has a HIGH standard barrel. This would be a proper barrel for Ithaca Remington Rand and US&S made pistols during WW II [:)]

It's definitely far from being a "pig".

It may be a mixed parts gun, but, considering the excellent condition, it would bring at least $1,000 if listed on the GB auction side. It could even bring more, as the market for USGI 1911A1's has exploded within the last year.

It looks to me like all parts have original finish. If the gun were mine, I'd check GB auctions to find an original finish Remington Rand Type III slide with wear consistent with that on the frame, & swap the slides. It might take a while, but it's not an impossible quest. If successful, I'd then list the Ithaca slide. But, not everyone has the time or patience.

Whatever he decides, your friend has a nice gun that he can shoot without worrying about lowering the value, & which will increase in value over time.

I'da wiped some of the congealment off those locking lugs to see how rounded off the edges were on the barrel and the slide, but that's just me.[;)]

Sorry, your right, I was in a hurry. They haven't been worn much at all. From the lack of wear on the bluing I would say likely less than 500 rounds total
