Removing the blacken finish

I have a Kahr P9 with the blacken stainless steel finish. With only a few months of holster wear it looks like it's ten years old. Is there a way to strip the finish to have a straight stainless steel look.

  You could bead blast the slide to get it off. The slide has to be taken apart to do this. After it is done, make sure all the material is cleaned out.
  I had one brought to me that was blasted and Dura-coated. The firing pin hole was packed with blast material still [xx(]

  I had striped a Glock barrel using vinegar and than polishing it for a few hours [xx(]. Not too fun.

  That sure doesn't sound like it should happen. Have you complained to Kahr? Maybe they are aware of a problem & are willing to make things right for you at no charge.

  Vinegar is an acid (Glycolic/Hydroxiacidic), but it is diluted by a significant amount. The PH will only be about 4,(7 neutral) so it really is quite mild. If you want more punch you could try a product called CLR (Sulfamic acid) that is available at most hardware stores. It is much stronger with a PH of about 2.5. Be careful as it can be toxic if used improperly. Most Sulfamic acid is "food grade" and as such not too nasty but the CLR product is not because it has other compounds present. CLR stands for Calcium-Lime-Rust. It is used and is effective in the removal of these items from plumbing fixtures, glass etc. Do not mix any of these with anything but water as you could have a violent and deadly reaction.

  Is the holster plastic? Is the wear at a retention point ? I had a plastic holster that was really tough on guns. I now like leather.

  Why , would you mess with the finish , "than" polish it???
  
  And were you happy with the result???
