stuck screw & stud

So... somehow the action bolts on a rifle got too tight... when unscrewed, the studs they screw into got unscrewed from the action.

Was suggested on a different forum to put nail polish on the threads, get 'em back into the action, letting nail polish dry, and then trying to unscrew.

No joy.


Do I go for locktite instead? What color?

Or do I say screw it, order new studs and screws, and dremel the old ones so I can get the magazine plate and trigger guard off?

  Locktite Red should set you up.
  Clean the threads well with a degreaser before reassembly, and be very careful to avoid getting any Locktite on the stock screw threads.

  The bolts are obviously worn, and need to be replaced. Replace them, and use the Blue(mediun strength) Loctite. I would stay away from the red for this application, as it usually needs heat, and it is kind of hard to apply heat when the workpiece is under a stock.
  
  You never said what type of rifle it is either. I usually don't use any Loctite, and torque those bolts to 55-60 inch pounds.

  It is a Savage Mk II in 22lr. Put thick bottom metal on it from DIP, action screws got torqued WAY to tight. When I tried to remove them, instead of the action screws breaking free the studs they screw into broke free from the action. So... need to either get studs to stay in the action or just dremel the screws to get my bottom metal off and buy new studs and screws...
  
  I'm thinkin it will be better to just get the new studs and screws at this point...

  Nothing wrong with new screws screws and studs. I'd install studs cleaned with red locktite on the action side and rig grease on the floor plate screws.
