brithish bulldog pistol question

are the british bulldog pistols considered non-guns because of their age? need to know if ffl is needed for sale. thanks

It depends.

"British Bulldog" is a type of revolver, not a specific make or model. Although most were made < 1898, some were manufactured after that date. If you don't have evidence that a specific gun was made before the statutory "antique" date, the default is that it is a "firearm" under federal law.

State & local law may vary.

If it's one of the common Belgian made examples (will have the ELG in oval proofmark on cylinder) if there's no crown on top of the oval, it was made before 1893.

But if the crown's there, no way to prove it was made before the 1 Jan 1899 (not 1898) federal US cutoff.

Am not an expert on these, but I AM holding Bill Goforth's Iver Johnson book. On page 7, there is a discussion of the American made "British Bulldog" revolver. First model 1882-1886 (round butt), and second model 1887-1899 (square butt). In addition to Belgian made guns, appears this was also a name used by IJ.
