I want to learn more about my SKS.
Only markings I can find on it are the serial number which is 3053565 and the /26\. I received it as a gift a few years back, so I don't know anything about it.

The /26/ marks it Chinese. The Serial #-- I couldn't say what info that could give, not that such info is not available? But the Chinese like to keep things hush-hush to themselves. Either that or their record keeping sucks more than mine?

The 26 inside the triangle is indeed Chinese, from Arsenal 26, the Jianshe Arsenal. They started making the Type 56 carbine (your gun) there in 1956 as a military weapon. First digit of SN added to 1956 will give you year of production for Arsenal 26 rifles ONLY. Went out of production at THAT arsenal in 1980. Import of these rifles from China ended in 1994, due to politics. Many of the Vietnam "bringbacks" were Arsenal 26 rifles. Unlike most civilian imports, those rifles will not have an importer's mark on them.

So 1959 was when mine was made? Adding the 3 from the SN.0 -

I have an SKS with the 26 inside the triangle and spike bayonet. I purchased it at a local farm supply store. It has a S/N of 1715583 and has import marks of KSI Pomona, CA. 0
