Gun Kote
I'm having problems with Gun Kote sticking to my gun. I have polished surfaces that are having alot of trouble, but the blasted areas are not holding up well either. I've been discussing this back and forth at www.stringergunsmithing.com/ and have received several answers telling me it's not meant for polished areas, but nobody can explain why the blasted areas are coming off. On this website i posted an intense description of exactly how i applied it, and if you all have anything else to add, i would really appriciate it. I also asked if anybody has used the electrolleses niclel that Brownells sells. I really would like to know opinions on it. If somebody can stop me from making another mistake, I won't be on here asking stupid questions. Thanks for all the help. BILL

I did a search to see if I could find the answer to this question. I am getting ready to bake off a barreled receiver in the oven and it will only fit at an angel. Can I have the finished part of the rifle touching the inside of the oven while it is baking with out the finish deforming?

The short answer is NO, unless you want the part touching the oven to be void of finish.

I tried some of the small parts on a metal pan and had no trouble with the parts sticking to the pan. Now I will try leaning the barrels up on the walls of the oven and see what happens.

It is not the sticking part. It is when or where the parts touch, the koating will thin when heated. So it will either be thin, or non existant on a very small portion, of the work piece. Even though small, it can, and WILL let the boogey man get in underneath the coating, and go to work. Kinda like painting your whole car, except for a little 1"x1" square on the inside fender wall...then drive in in the ny winter and see where all the crud starts...

Put a WOODEN DIAL rod into the bore ans let it stick out enough to hold your barrel away from the oven wall. 0
