Firearms which are over 50 years old are automatically Curio and Relics. There are also firearms which have not reached that age but which the BATFE considers of special interest to collector and are also C&R. The BATFE maintains a Curio and Relics list and you can find it online. Shipping in complicated by state laws. Some states like New Jersey do no recognize a C&R FFL and all firearms going into that state must be shipped to dealers. There are also states like CA which allow C&R long guns but do not allow direct shipping of C&R handguns to Type 03 FFL holders. C&R handguns going to CA must be shipped to FFL dealers for transfer.

Hello ZULU ALL PERTINENT INFORMATIONwould take a BOOK in fact there is a book for all FFL holders including C&R lic. holders . Now if the question is as a non Lic. holder and a seller of a firearm can a private citizen ship a gun to a C&R Lic holder the short answer is "IF IT CAN BE PROVEN that a fire arm is 50 years old or older and in original configuration the you can ship to a C&R LIC holder. If it is military It can't be turned into SPORTER and qualify. Also there is a large list of other COLLECTOR items LIKE COLT SINGLE ACTIONS that also qualify . each C&R Lic. holder has this list. if you are selling an ITEM on Gunbroker and a buyer ask "WILL YOU SHIP IT TO ME DIRECT" you tha seller better be sure it qualifies and you get a copy of his LIC. YES IT CAN BE DONE IF YOU FOLLOW THE RULES

The current firearm in question is a Remington Model 14 pump-action rifle in .30 Remington.

I believe that production of the Model 14 ended some time around 1934 so it more than qualifies as a Curio and Relic. The issue now is where are you shipping it?

Don't know yet. Had a guy ask a question about a Model 14 that is a current auction if we could ship to a C&R holder.

I would ship a C&R rifle or shotgun to any state. I am cautious, so I always request a copy of the buyer's drivers license in addition to a copy of his C&R license.

But, if you are super cautious, tell him "If permitted by state/local law where you live." And, look it up online in State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms" ATF P5300.5.

It is easy to check the validity and premesis address of a C&R FFL by calling the number on the BATF eZCheck web site. I've checked a half a dozen and none of the calls has taken more than three minutes.

Is "original configuration" required of a +50 year old firearm not of military origin to qualify for C & R status?

Minor parts can be changed; for instance the addition of a target sight or target stocks on a revolver that had a non adjustable sight and factory stocks. Something like adding a folding stock to a 1955 Winchester Model 70 would remove the rifle from C&R status.
