Serial # Browning Medalist Renaissance
Serial number on Medalist is A70UUxxxx
This gun is a Medalist Renaissance, one of the nicest I've seen. I'll try to post a pic if I can figure out how. Anyway I'm told that the A designates Arnold Missouri. The 70 is the mfg year and we have no idea what the UU signifies. The people at Browning were not familiar with the number but never took the time to really investigate it. Should the serial number be a deal breaker? Does the odd lot number lessen the value of the gun.

Browning now offers letters for a reasonable price of $40. 0 -
During that time frame FN/Browning used a specific letter identifier in the serial number for each of their models.
The number on the grip of the pistol was in the format of either a one or two digit number that was the actual year of manufacture. Then the letter model identifier. Then the actual serial number which was 1 to 4 digits.
To make a long story short the number on your pistol is way out in left field. "U" was the identifier for the Browning Challenger not the Medalist, whose identifier was a "T".
If I were you before springing for it I would get a hands on by a very experienced and honest collector and/or dealer. Renaissance Medalists are very big buck collectors items at this point in time, you don't want to get stuck with a turd, if you know what I mean.
EDIT #1, I did a GOOGLE search on the net using "Renaissance Medalist" as a search term. I found this photo of one showing it's serial number.
