The 16" will loose about 100-150 FPS over the 20". Accuracy wise, there is not any difference, as barrel length, other than providing longer, or shorter sight radius, has no effect on accuracy.

I have a 16" bull barrel AR-15, that has a 1 in 8 twist. Using the Barnes 62 grain TSX, or the 68 grain Hornady Match bullets, it will outshoot MOST factory bolt guns in that chambering(223 Remington, and the AR-15 has a Wylde chamber)...including 24" varmint guns.

    EDIT 1

    Kimberkid,

I do understand your concern about the 223/5.56, not being a 308 Winchester. However, I was driving the point, that other than length of sight radius alone, barrel length is not a function of accuracy. Accuracy is all about consistancy, each and every shot. Consistancy of the rifling, and fouling in the bore, consistancy of the loads being fired, and consistancy of the shooter, each and every time they squeeze that trigger. So yes, this does apply to every firearm, not just a SR-25 in 308 Winchester, or an AR-16 in 223/5.56mm.

I think for that kind of info Knights would be the place to ask since that its a .308 and no information from a .223/5.56 rifle is going to be useful ... and realistically due to the price point there just aren't that many SR25's out there.

A few years ago when I had an SR25 Match rifle I called them about a couple different questions and they were very helpful.

Velocity wise you should expect to loose 35-50 FPS. As far as one length being more accurate then the other is a toss up. No 2 guns shoot the same and the same goes for barrels. Generally speaking a short stout 16 inch barrel will shoot as good or most likely better then the 20 inch normal barrel. From what I remember Knight's barrels weren't all that heavy. Barrels have come a long way since the SR-25's were first built. IMHO I'd probably change the Knight's barrel to a stoutier 18 inch model.
