Iver Johnson Ring Trigger

I have an old 12 ga IJ Ring Trigger.. It has cleaned up beautiful. The bore is a tiny bit pitted but overall quite good and shines on very well.

Does anyone know where can I get the proper ammo to shoot this little baby? I have read it absolutely will not fire modern 12 ga shells. Thanks

  Before Bill Goforth left us, he identified the "ring trigger" you mention (which is actually a ring IN FRONT OF THE TRIGGER, which allows you to drop the barrel for extraction and reloading.
  
  
  
  Bill said it was actually listed as the IVER JOHNSON MODEL 1900 IMPROVED. There was no discussion about type of ammo, but I'm ASSUMING since it is NOT damascus steel it should be okay with modern ammo. I recommend take it to a qualified and competent gunsmith to question IF it's safe or not to fire.
  
  Never heard of it not accepting standard 12.

  Before we go charging off in all directions, we have to define modern ammunition. I consider 3 inch magnum shells loaded with high pressure smokeless powder and steel shot to be modern ammunition. This is not appropriate ammunition for an Iver Johnson Ring Trigger shotgun! Appropriate ammunition would be 2 1/2 inch shot shells loaded with either black powder or low pressure smokeless powder and lead shot. The old guns can still be fired, if in good mechanical condition and with appropriate ammo. But, have it inspected by a good competent gunsmith first.
