current smooth bore 22's?
I'm high bidder on this 1961 Remington. Are there any 22 smooth bore 22's currently in production?

Up until recently Savage made a 22lr smoothbore. I just looked and didn't see it listed on their web page anymore nor did I find any searching Gunbroker.
On Savages "Gun Finder" they still have it so when you select the caliber you want to look at, they have "22 shot" listed but no models come up. It was available just a few years ago so there should be a few around.0 -
I know Remington was making a 572 SB 22 smoothbore pump a few years ago. I don't thin k they continued production, but I'm not sure.

Not to hijack the post, but what is the benefit of a smooth bore .22 rifle? Other than "ratshot", what is the reason for wanting one?

In the 60's there was a smooth bore .22 with a mini-trap mounted on the barrel. Trying to hit one of those tiny thrown targets was a real challenge. I was 12 and at Boy Scout camp. I had forgotten all about it till I read this topic. On a good day I could hit maybe 1 or 2 out of 10. 0 -
Bird pests and snakes at close range. Bumble bees and wasps present a challange on the wing. 0 -

I'm guessing you are referring to the Mossberg Targo. They are great fun!0 -

They are very effective for "pests" such as backyard chipmunks at fairly close range. Also, we used them inside barns for sparrows. They won't penetrate the roof, but plenty of knockdown for "tweeters"!!
One of the reasons I like them for backyard pests is you don't really have to worry about a ricochet. Even safer than a pellet gun!0 -
i have a rem.bolt action 580 single shot .22 smooth bore,and it kills much,much better than a rifled.22 barrel with .22 shot shells and the crimped shells are way better than the CCI capseled shells 0 -
