Shipping to Japan??

Can I legally ship a pair of vintage handgun grips to Japan without violating and laws? Anyone ever shippped to Japan...any idea what the costs would be? [?][?][?]

  usps small flat rate international would be very cheap 17 bucks, no idea about legality but I'd bet it is no problem

  When I was shipping world wide, I would go by what the USPS had on their website for customs. Here is the link to the page for Japan. http://pe.usps.com/text/imm/il_010.htm
  
  I found it odd that playing cards were not allowed in Spain. Gun parts were also on the list, can not remember if it was all parts or just what the guy tried to buy.
  
  Here is what it says about Japan.
  
  Firearms, including handguns, pistols, machine guns, and rifles; other types of weapons, including daggers, swords, spears, and switch blade knives; and the components of firearms and weapons may not be imported into Japan unless the intended recipient has received prior permission from the competent authority (i.e., the Public Safety Commission) in the prefecture in which that person resides.

  If the package goes through the nitrate sniffer, you may loose the part. I sold some M1 clips to a person in Italy and they were taken from him at the airport because they had powder residue on them.

  Cannot ship to Italy either.
  
  Weapons of any kind and spare parts for them.
  
  Playing cards are on the list as well as other odd things like handkerchiefs and scarves.

  You can always give the option of shipping to anywhere the buyer wants in the US ... let him figure out the export/import options

  You cannot go by anything on the USPS website. The export of firearms & related material is subject to approval by the Dept of State; all other items must be approved by the Dept of Commerce. Countries & permitted items can change weekly. Only those in the business can keep up with it.
  
  I follow llama's advice; any serious overseas collector will have a "US agent", a person with an FFL & exporter license. The US agent sends me the money, I send him the item; no muss, no fuss, no chance of breaking the law.

  You must use an exporter who will jump thru hoops such as the State Dept tax of $250. I suggest Mike at European Target Shooter Supplies. ETSS.
