Skeet shooting
I am looking to buy a good clay shooting shotgun in 12 or 20 gauge thats not to expensive preferably in autoloader but any suggestions I appreciate

I have a Marlin 410. Not an oldie. I want to shoot skeet with a friend who is new to skeet as well.
Question: Can I use the Marlin 410 for skeet shooting or is it better for merely hunting varmits, birds, turkey etc..Do I need to buy a 12 ga that takes all of the screw in chokes for skeet shooting?
The Skeet guns I see are all thousands of $, not that much into it for those prices... All I know about skeet is "pull" aim ahead of the clay, and fire. I have much to learn, I know, but I have to start somewhere, why not here.....LOL Thanks guys...0 -
Yes, you can shoot skeet with it. You will however be at a big disadvantage... Many skeet/trap clubs have loaner/rental guns, I'd use one in 12 or 20ga if available.
Of course, if you are looking for an excuse for a new gun, a nice semi or O/U 20ga may be in your future....0 -
You neglect to say whether you are just going to shoot casually for fun or join a competition league. If just for fun, use what you have until you decide to expand into another gauge, if necessary.
Competition is another story. Rent or borrow different guns until you find what you like. Unfortunately, you will find .410 ammo a little pricey.0 -
Not for competiton Just for fun But I want a gun that will at least give me the opportunity to hit the clay bird..I am looking at 12 ga over unders..The Stoegers get a bad rap. I don't want to spend more than $600 since it isn't going to be my passion, just an occasional outing. I was looking at item # 284929824 a CZ Canvasback O/U for an initial bid of $575.00 but what really caught my eye was the Mossberg Silver Reserve Field (New) Item # 28457302 $594 auction $ 599 buy now.
What do you guys think about these selections?0 -
I wouldn't buy either.. The mossberg has very poor fit usually and is very hard to open & close, the CZ's at my club have been unreliable with 2 showing unexpected doubling. Buy a Ruger or a citori or an SKB all used but very good and reliable 0 -
You can shoot skeet or trap with any gun. However .410 is going to be an experienced shooters gun.
Just find a gun you like and fits you. Mossber silver reserve are turkish made and apparently have firing pin issues fairly often. Look for an old remington spartan or bakial. Hard to open but dependable and affordable.
Citori's aren't everything there japaneseness is cracked up to be either but you'll spend double the price.

Check the Fausti O/Us as well... mine is very nice, action opens easy, screw in chokes, inexpensive but not cheap.0 -

I will do that What do yu think of the Chas Daly models made in Japan? Anybody have anything good to say about them or when they switched to Japan production did they go "south" in quality? Also the Remington SP 310 Any advice on these guns?0 -
the Japan Miroku Daly is an outstanding handling and quality gun, they usually go for more than 750 minimum at several of the live auctions I attend. If you are considering that type look to the Japan Winchester 101's also 0 -

It is interesting you mention the Winchester 101 b/c I have one on my watch list. I was wondering how well they are made for skeet. The one I am considering is specifically made for skeet...a 101 Skeet
