RUGER 10/22 EXPERTS or STOCKMAKERS

On a RUGER 10/22 CHARGER PISTOL, RUGER has put a Screw in the grip from the inside down threw the grip.
Is it for extra Strengh, and is it necessary?,
I want to use a M O A Stainless receiver and it has a rear take-down screw that is not on a RUGER Receiver, It's there so that you can FREE-FLOAT the Barrel.
In order to install it you must drill a hole for it, and that hole Must go where RUGER put that screw in the grip.
What happens IF I remove that screw, and can I reinforce the Grip some other way ??

    The screw for the grip is to reinforce it; you won't need it, as long as you never hit the grip against something solid, in which case it will break off & you will need to buy a new stock.

    The purpose of the rear mounting screw on an MOA receiver is so that it can be securely attached to your stock. You may want to call MOA & verify that their drilling fixture can be used for the Charger, as well as the rifle.

    I talked to M O A and ask if it could be used for a Charger Pistol, but at that time I did not know that they had a screw in the Grip.and M O A did not tell Me.
    They said Yes that their M O A receiver was a Great UP-GRADE for the CHARGER PISTOL.I ordered their drill rit at that time.
    I am now DREAMING for a Fiberglass Stock like the HOGUE OM stock,as I love the four(4) that I have on My 10/22 Rifles.

    Dose anyone know of a Fiberglass Stock for the 10/22 CHARGER ??
    I am now thinking that after that I remove the Screw; then I should put a dial rod up through the Grip,I could hid it with an Emblin!

    The Hogue stock is not a fiberglass stock. It is an injection molded, polymer stocj, that has some carbon grafite, and some glass filling in it. The bulk of it is mostly a nylon type base.

    To make the modification for the MOA reciever's rear lug, it should not be that hard, with a drill press, and a Dremel. On the other hand, you could just use a Dremel, and/or grinder to remove the lug on the MOA reciever, so it would fit into a Ruger, or Aftermarket stock.

    You seemed to be hooked on this MOA reciever for reasons of free floating the barrel. I hope you realize that the reciever is threaded for the barrel, and the MOA threaded barrels, or barrels that a gunsmith threads on a lathe. However, MOA has special non threaded barrels for sale, that have a slip fit. In other words, the ID of the threads are not the standard diameter of the 10-22's, and will not accept the 10-22 aftermarket or OEM barrels. So it is either buy the MOA threaded barrels, or the MOA slip fit barrel's, is what my take on this is.

    Are you still sure you wish to go MOA? To put it into perspective, a 10-22 with a good trigger, is very accurate out of the box. I have a couple that are heavily moded, just for fun. If you are not willing to keep them clean, and shoot the $10.00/50 rounds, ammo, then, you are gaining nothing...other than saying "I built this".

    Lastly, there are several maker's out there who will make you a Fiberglass/Kevlar stock for your needs. A lot of them don't catalog it for a handgun, but when asked will build one. Brown Precision, McMillain, and HS Precision are but a few.

    I have two(2) 10/22 Chargers,one RUGER Receiver, and MATCH BUILT to the MAX, Then the M O A. STAINLESS Receiver with rear Take-down screw and Threaded.of witch I put a 16" TACTICAL SOULTIONS, ULTI-LITE, Fluted,and Threaded 1/2 x 28, There was no problin of puting it into the threaded M O A. Receiver.
    The Stock is the Quistion,
    I will contact the ones that you spoke of.

    What I did with my MOA reciever to Hogue stock was to get a disc burr. I used it to cut a notch in to the Hogue stock and didn't bother with the screw/bolt. The diagram given by MOA was crap (at least for me).
