Black powder conversion cylinders

I picked up a Lyman 36 cal black powder revolver. Are there conversion cylinders made for it. I don't mess with black poder and if I keep it would like to change it to 38 special or 38 S&W

  Yes, but...
  The barrel is oversize for .38 Special or .38 S&W.
  For decent shooting, you have to load either heel type bullets as in the original conversions, hollowbase bullets, or line the barrel to .358".

  You might consider the fake black powder. In my rifle the fake stuff is harder to get lit. I like the American Pioneer.

  Yep they are available from Midway. Not cheap though. They run over $200. They have them for the .36 that lets you shoot .38 Long Colt but that ammo is expensive too. You might just use the pyrodex pellets. They are no muss no fuss. I used them on a .44 cap & ball gun.

  I first saw one of the conversion cylinders probably at least twenty years ago. I thought it was a neat idea until I saw the price. For what they wanted then you could have bought an entire regular pistol.
  The only real value would be for someone who couldn't buy a gun legally or who wanted to avoid a waiting period.
  For the Colt type pistols they probably wouldn't be much faster to reload than the cap & ball version.
