Who makes a 308 cal barrel with a one in seven twist, or one in eight twist? Thanks.

Geri,
Any of the cut rifle barrel makers will make you a barrel with either of those twist rates. Bartlein can even make a barrel that starts with the slower 1:8" twist which speeds up to the 1:7" twist.

nn,
A bit off topic regarding the "accelerated twists" but how do you speed up a twist without leaving the bullet unmarked/unhindered by the accelerated twist?
Meaning: a slower twist leaves one (set of) mark(s) on the bullet and as it (the twist) increases the lands will leave a different mark. How is this accounted for?0 -
sandwarrior,
This has always been a consideration and is responsible for the cessation of gain twist barrels for the last few years. The difference is that the older versions used a huge range of gain, from 1:16" up to 1:8" for the 6mm. The drastic amount of gain was responsible for bullet deformation and a loss of accuracy.
The current versions use a combination of 5R rifling form along with a much smaller range of gain, like the 1" difference I mentioned previously. However, we are seeing some minor improvement even when using a range as small as 1/2" in the 6mm barrels. Here the deformation is insignificant to both accuracy and trajectory.
