Colt 1851 2nd generation

I just picked up an 1851 36 Cal NIB I think. It has the box and paper work with it and all in good shape. Im not at home so I can post pictures tomorrow, but the barrel looks reblued? The serial # 1s 10508. The box has the colt on it. The reason I say it looks reblued is that where the serial # is on the barrel section it looks sorta like guns do when they have been reblued. I think I read somewhere that the finish work on some later Colts was not as good as others? Is it posible that what Im seening is the lesser quality?

  You have a "C" series Colt, which was the first series of the 1851 Navy made from 1971 until 1978. They had a beautiful "Royal blue" finish and may look reblued but probably isn't. Your Colt, serial #10508, was assembled at Colt's Hartford factory in 1973.

  For definitive information about 2nd generation Colt cap and ball revolvers, obtain a copy of "Percussion Colt Revolvers, The Second Generation-Collectors Handbook and Price Guide" by Dennis Russel. It is in its 6th edition and also contains full information about the 3rd generation Colts. It is available directly from mr. Russell. Look him up on google.
