Browning 270, What's it worth?

My brother is looking at buying a Browning 270, The top of it is stamped: BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. MADE IN BELGIUM BY FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL ASSEMBLED PORTUGAL Above the trigger is 137 PV 18426.

Any info would be great. Would just really like to know if its worth buying and how much I should tell him to spend.

    The rifle is a BAR made in 1985. Your best bet on value is to check the auction side (completed auctions) and look for comparable condition rifles and recent selling prices. Price range is probably between $500 and $700 depending on condition. A good rifle if you're looking for an automatic; the most accurate of sporting autos I've used.

    Edit: Better ask a few more questions about this rifle. 137 is Browning's product code for a BAR. If you're being told it is a bolt action there is either an error with the number you provided or someone doesn't understand the difference between a bolt and a semi-auto.

    It depends on when it was actually made, and if the stock was of the salt cured type wood. The salt wood stocked guns, are not worth as much as the non salt wood guns, as there are inherent corrosion problems with them.

    137 is the id code for the bar, so I don't see how it could be bolt action.
