What would be a good caliber for this action? Thinking 32-40 or 32-20. Suggestions?

  If you load nitro 32-20, if you load black 32-40.

  .32/40, the Stevens 44 1/2 was made for it with a stronger bolt and lockup than the 44 had. If smokeless makes you nervous, use Trail Boss powder and cast bullets.

  The 44 1/2 is a very strong action and the .32-40 would work well in it. All the better if it's one of the actions with DST's would make a fine Schuetzen rifle.

  I am just going to confirm what has been said. 44 1/2 is good with smokeless or black in .32-40. Great action and they make great shooters.
