Auto-Ordnance 1911 Pistol

Would like opinions on the Auto-Ordnance Thompson 1911 pistol made by Kahr Arms in Worcester, Mass. Frankly, I have not seen too many of these at gun dealers or on Gun Broker. THANKS!!!

  I think the newer ones are better than the older ones. Basically quality of AO before and during the first few years (while the old stock were still around were bad). As to tell which is which?

  I bought one new back in the 80's, as the price was well below that of a Colt or Springfield. First time at the range, the front sight flew off after about 30 rounds of 230gr ammo. Sent it back to Auto Ordnance for repair and eventually sold it. Bought a Springfield Loaded 1911 for a couple hundred bucks more and I've been happy with it.
  Can't speak for the new ones, but with the older ones, you got what you paid for. At least in my experience.

  Friend of mine has one. Basic GI style gun. Meaning you will get hammer bite. Toss the factory mag and get Wilson Combat or similar quality and they run fine. He loves it. IMO it's a decent buy but you might also consider the Remington R1 or Springfield Armory if you want a bone stock GI style reasonably priced 1911--or go with a nice Colt.

  My first 1911 was one i got about '87. It was NOT a later made one that were not put together veery good. I shot it in matches for about three years, putting a few thousand rounds through it. The only things done to it was a beaver tail and sights and barrel throating to feed SWC ammo.
  As far as I know the guy that bought it is still shooting the thing.
  If the Kahr built ones are like the five K9+40,s *'ve had they are built like tanks.
