Should be a .32 not a .38. If original and in Very Good condition or better, very desirable to a S & W collector.

Few were made as most of the bullseye target shooters preferred the K 38, .38 special revolver to the .32 S & W cartridge.

Need quality photos for accurate identification and valuation.

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, the Model 16 is called the K-32 Masterpiece. It hs a square butt K frame and is chambered for the .32 S&W Long.

The 16-3 variant was introduced in 1967. The model was discontinued in the catalog in 1974.

If your pistol is, in fact, chambered for .38 Special, I would suggest the frame has most likely been mismarked. This is not unknown. It may carry a small premium, but it won't raise most collectors' eyebrows.

As usual, pictures will help make a better evaluation.
